Roadblocks and pitfalls

As authors, we sure do know how to torture our characters!  We put them through the meat grinder, whether it's vampires and demons, or something closer to home. One of the tools in a writer's tool box is knowing where and how to apply pressure and set up roadblocks for our characters.
